The Baseball Canada Volunteer of the Year Award was created in 2001 to recognize the contribution of the most dedicated, enthusiastic person who has devoted at least ten years of volunteering within their provincial association. Baseball Alberta will submit the Alberta winner to Baseball Canada.
The award is given to grassroots coaches who have demonstrated a positive coaching approach through the year, adhering to LTAD principles, put forward some innovative developmental ideas while creating a fun environment for the young players. These winners are excellent role models while encouraging players to return to the game of baseball next season.
Is presented in recognition of distinguished and lifelong service to promote and develop the sport of Baseball in Alberta.
As part of the Baseball Alberta Annual Awards, we will be awarding each division an Off Field Manager (OFM) of the Year.
The Baseball Alberta Off-Field Manager of the Year Awards are selected by the Baseball Alberta office staff and presented annually to a volunteer at each of the ‘A’, ‘AA’, and ‘AAA’ levels who is an excellent communicator in connecting his or her team to the other teams in the league and the BA office staff, an outstanding host who works tirelessly to make sure that visiting teams have a great play experience, and superb administrator to take care of all the roster submissions, scoresheets, pitch counts, diamond bookings, and umpire payments.
Associations are being asked to nominate an outstanding OFM in their association who displayed commitment to their team and to their association during the 2024 Baseball Alberta season. This OFM should be an individual who ensured that the season was a memorable experience for the coaches, players and families on their team.
Is presented annually to a minor coach who directed their team with sportsmanship.
Is presented annually by Baseball Alberta for outstanding efforts in structure, promotion and development of amateur baseball in Alberta.
The Gordie Wilson Memorial Award is presented to a 15U age player who has demonstrated leadership and athletic abilities in the sport of baseball and is to financially assist the individual to attend the Baseball Alberta Winter Camp, or a similar local camp if the player does not live within weekend commuting distance to Edmonton.
Presented annually to a promising young umpire whose age does not exceed 25 years, who has attained a minimum NUCP Level 2 certification, has displayed dedication, a willingness to learn and improve their skills as a baseball official throughout the course of the year.
This award is based on the ability and commitment of Alberta umpires that are entering the National program.
Must be Nationally Certified (ie - Level, 3, Level, 4 or Level 5).
Must be capable of umpiring all levels of baseball within the province.
Must have shown a willingness to improve their skills, thereby giving the teams and organizations a top quality official for their events.
Must have contributed to the umpire programs through any of the following: mentorship, instructing, assigning games, provincial representation regionally and/or nationally, or in assisting the Umpires Committee with programs that will benefit the umpires in Alberta.
Presented annually to an individual(s) who fulfills the following criteria; has demonstrated loyalty and dedication to the umpiring program in Alberta; has assisted in the development and education of fellow umpires; has demonstrated leadership in his/her umpiring community; has provided encouragement, support and opportunity thereby fostering growth in fellow umpires and in the Baseball Alberta Umpire Program.
Baseball Alberta offers many scholarships for post-secondary students. Individuals who have graduated from a Baseball Alberta Association at any time and who are currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution are eligible to apply. Applicants do not need to be attending the post-secondary institution specifically to play baseball to be eligible.
